Because of dry, windy conditions, Fauquier County on Monday afternoon banned outdoor burning until further notice.
“After consultation with our area forester, we have decided to implement a ban on open burning,” county Fire Chief Darren Stevens said in a press release. This will go into effect immediately and remain in effect until the dangerous conditions subside.
“I have made arrangements to meet and review with our local forester on Friday to asses if we can lift the ban before going into the weekend.
“This does not prohibit outdoor cooking with a grill or other cooking device approved for outdoor use.”
Chief Stevens urged those who deep fry turkeys or do other outdoor cooking for Thanksgiving to take extra precautions.
“Please, have a fire extinguisher or garden hose readily available.”
